Private Household Staff | Tips for creating the perfect candidate profile
Finding a new role can be tough for private household staff, especially in a competitive industry. Having a standout profile is key to getting noticed and securing the job you desire.
As someone who views, edits, and creates candidate profiles daily, I know the importance of a comprehensive and well-crafted CV. One common issue we encounter is CVs lacking sufficient information, leading to delays in presenting your profile to potential clients. No one wants that!
So, how can you ensure you’re giving yourself the best chance of securing that interview?
Profile Picture
First impressions matter, and your photo is the first thing our clients will see! Ensure you have a recent headshot that looks smart and friendly. A neutral background works best, and don’t forget to sport your best smile! Even a clear, high-quality selfie taken on your phone can do the trick.
Personal Summary
This is your chance to sell yourself. Explain why you would be an asset to a family. Do you have extensive experience with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? Mention it! Do you follow a specific childcare approach? Describe it! Include as much detail as possible. It’s better to have too much information than too little. We can always condense it if needed.
Work Experience
Showcase your extensive experience by including the start and end dates, location, job title, and the ages of any children you worked with for each position. Provide detailed descriptions of your duties. Did you work in a fully staffed household? Did you travel? What schedule did you follow? More information is always better—we can always trim it down. If you have employment gaps or took a break from the industry, that’s fine! Just note what you were doing during that time, as clients will ask.
Qualifications
List all your qualifications, including any courses or certifications you’ve completed. Whether it’s a three-year degree or a short course, make sure it’s on your profile.
Hobbies
Hobbies and interests might seem trivial, but they can be crucial! Clients often look for candidates with specific skills or interests, such as swimming, horse riding, skiing, sports, or music. Make sure to note all your hobbies and interests.
Small Details Matter
Don’t forget to add smaller but important details: Do you have a driver’s license? Do you hold any specific visas? All this information is relevant and important.
By following these tips and ensuring your profile is detailed and comprehensive, you’ll give yourself the best chance of standing out in the competitive private staffing industry and securing that dream role. Happy job hunting!
